Changing plans…

I mentioned on my last blogpost that I wouldn’t upload my conceptual images on the blog, since they weren’t a true reflection of my work.

Since I haven’t had any sessions, I will keep uploading these pieces.

I went to Harpers Ferry with the husby today, and a fun time was had by all. I, however, went with the expectation of creating a new image.

There are innumerable locations that could be used at the park. I wanted to do something in the river, or on the bridge next to the railroad tracks.

The only problem was the harsh 2 p.m. light that wouldn’t let me do anything!

Also, if I wanted to do something in the river, I would’ve had to swim, which wasn’t on my plans whatsoever.

Recently I’ve had some people asking me how do I create the images. Husby was holding his iphone, and here I thought: “Oh cool, he’s snapping some pictures”.

To my surprise, he was recording what I was doing. Just in case you can’t hear what I said, I was asking him: “Do I look completely crazy?”. He of course said: “No”.

I bet you it looks weird if you don’t know what the purpose of the posing, running, semi showing your underwear, shaking the head, etc. is all about!!!

Conceptual Photography

I just became really interested in Conceptual and Fine Art photography, and I am definitely willing to try it out!

I am doing this for myself. It will be my own creative outlet.

I love photographing people, and that’s exactly what I want to do: Wedding, Engagement, Family, Senior and Fashion portraiture. However, this new passion for “Dark Art” lets me explore new concepts, techniques and scenarios that are completely out of reach in my own reality.

I think I will be doing a lot of self portraits, since it is more of a personal project, and it allows me to be in control of what I want to create. But this is harder than anything else I’ve done so far, because it forces me to turn into the main subject (which I don’t like at all, it is hard for me to be in front of a camera).

I just wanted to show some of the very first images I’ve created so far. I will post these images on my Flickr stream from now on, so if you want to see the progression of this personal project, you’re more than welcome to go there and see the evolution of something completely unexplored. I don’t want to post these images on the blog, since they are not a true reflection of what I want to do with my clients.

But, if you happen to be a photographer in the area (or if you’re just interested in this Dark concept), and you want to explore and bounce ideas, I would love to work with YOU!!!

I want to create a community of people who are passionate about photography and maybe start looking for artist in our area who can help us out with make up and wardrobe.

This was my very first attempt to create a conceptual theme on one of my pictures. The tittle of the image: Wild flower.

Wild Flower

The idea behind it was to capture an image of a girl who lives in the wild. She was not expecting to be found, yet someone managed to do so. There she was, laying on the ground, dirty and semi indifferent to the situation, yet confused and defensive…

I know: what on earth have I been consuming/smoking lately, right?

I came up with the concept right after I snapped the first 2 or 3 shots. I had something completely different in mind but it just wasn’t working out.

I was also trying to shoot on the fly, since my neighbor in her late 70’s was doing some yard work in her backyard, and a guy from a landscaping company was trimming the weeds right behind me fence.

Just try to imagine me: I was covered in blue paint (since that’s the darkest finger paint that Isabela owns), my hair was wet and messy and I was laying on the lawn and then chimping on my camera to see if I was getting the results I was expecting to accomplish on my imagery. So yeah, being the next door neighbor is something else! (If you’re interested, the house on the left is vacant ;)).

The second image was my very first composite. The title: Empty Illumination.

This is exactly what I had in mind, but the execution wasn’t right at all.

I wanted to be able to see an unknown subject reading an old book, just levitating next to a lamp.

I just think it doesn’t tell a story and it brought up a lot of questions in my mind. Why is she levitating to read? If she is so close to the floor, why doesn’t she just sit down there? What is she reading if the notebook is empty? Why is she next to a wall? Why does she need light if the room looks illuminated enough?

I also noticed lots of flaws on the image afterwards.

Aaron’s point of view: The image lacks depth and that just doesn’t seem comfortable…

It’s not what I wanted to transmit or accomplish, yet it’s my first composite and I am happy with it. I am proud to say I am 98% self taught, and that makes me proud of what I’ve done so far, and makes me truly believe the super cliché phrase: “The sky is the limit“.

I will keep trying though, I am not done with Conceptual Photography at all!
